Ole Haakonson Harstad (sometimes written Hastad) was born on 20 Sept 1864 in Hantho Township, Lac qui Parle, Minnesota to Haagen Larsen Hastad and Oleanna Olsdtr Klefsasvold. He had 7 siblings. 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Ole was the 4th child.
Ole married Karen Severtson (also Syverson) on 06 Oct 1886 in Lac Qui Parle, Minnesota. Ole was 22 years old and Karen was 19. They had a set of boy/girl twins on 18 Dec 1887 Hanna and Olaf. Hanna died on 31 Dec 1887 and Olaf died 1 Jan 1888. They had a total of 12 children. 8 boys and 4 girls.

He was a blacksmith and worked as a machine operator at Minneapolis Steel & Machine Works Company from 1919 until it merged with Minneapolis-Moline tractor company in 1929 and he retired at 63 years old. He received a pocket watch upon retirement.
Ole and Karen lived with their son Gustav in 1930. Myrtle and her son William Neisinger lived with them. Ole died in 1933 of Essential Hypertension for 4years, Endocarditis for 1 year and hypostatic pneumonia for 1 week. Ole was buried in the Crystal Lake Cemetery.
