Katharina Held married Heinrich Bucher, 1836-1895, on November 10, 1883 in Schwabsburg, near Nierstein, Germany. They birthed four children: Heinrich Bucher, 1884-1886, Margaretha Bucher, 1886-1886, Johannes Bucher, 1887-1887, and Anna Christine Bucher, 1889-1967. Christine was their only child raised to adulthood.

In 1902, acting on an invitation from a recently widowed American retired farmer named Jacob Neisinger, she and young Christine immigrated to the United States. After a long train trip to North Dakota, she married Mr. Neisinger.

Jacob was originally from Katharina’s hometown of Schwabsburg. After his wife Gertrude’s death, he penned a letter back to his origins asking if there might be an available mature woman who would consider marriage and housekeeping in North Dakota. Katharina, a widow, volunteered. From thirty years past, she claimed some memory of Gertrude Neisinger.

Katharina lived in her tidy white corner house in Lidgerwood for thirty years, pass Jacob’s death in 1917, until 1933 when she left North Dakota and moved 270 miles to Roseau, Minnesota to be near Christine and her family.
