  • BURIAL Unknown

During the late 1860’s at near 60 years of age, Jakob emigrated from Germany to the United States with his wife Eva and their three single daughters. Three sons had preceded him to America. He farmed in La Crosse County, Wisconsin for ten years before dying there during the 1870’s. His burial location is unknown. His oldest son Peter settled in New York City and sons Jacob Jr and Paul farmed near him in La Crosse County before they relocated, not long after his death, to Dakota Territory and Minnesota respectively. His daughters, Agnes (Berg) Burk, Margaretha Myers, and Katherine Wilkie, eventually all married in Wisconsin and began raising large families in the local area near Bangor and Burns, WI. (Agnes later moved across the Mississippi River into Minnesota and still later moved forty miles south into northeast Iowa where she died at age 51 years old.) He and Eva birthed eight recorded children and raised six to adulthood producing over forty grandchildren. Eva outlived him by perhaps twenty years.
