Andrew William Frees was born in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York on 29 Aug 1882 to parents Johns A Freis (also written Jons Anderson Frees, Frus or Friis) and Carolina W Freis (Carolina Wilhelmina Wredberg) He was the
6th child born to Jons and Carolina (Including a set of twins who died less than a month after being born) Andrew had one younger sister born when the family moved to St Paul Minnesota.
Andrew married Elizabeth Riddle in 1902 and they had 4 children—Loren Edward, a baby girl (who, it is believed, was given to the Bethany Home for Unwed Mothers when she was an infant), Dorothy Mary and Donald. Donald was given up to the Bethany Home for Unwed Mothers when he was 2 months old. According to the divorce records Andrew left the Elizabeth a couple of times during their marriage and would be gone for weeks sometimes months. It seems that during two of the periods of him being gone she had given birth and been unable to care for an infant and an older child(ren) with no means of support so she gave the babies to the Bethany Home. Donald died of Tuberculosis at 9 months old (Sept 10, 1910) while still in the care of the Bethany Home. Nothing more is known about the other baby girl at this time.
Andrew and Elizabeth were divorced in May of 1910. On Nov 2, 1910 he married Mabel Rustad. They did not have any children together, but Andrew’s children Loren and Dorothy would live them off and on throughout the years. In May 1927, Andrew and Mabel were divorced, but they remarried before the end of that same year and remained married until Andrew’s death.
Andrew worked as a hat maker, a salesman, a shipping clerk, a travel agent and apartment manager. Andrew died on Nov 16, 1945 at 63 years old of hypertensive heart disease and acute pulmonary edema. He was cremated on Nov 28, 1945. Mabel Frees was buried in Lakewood Cemetery when she died, but Andrew is not listed there.
