Daughter Hagstrom

Well in going back through all the records I looked back at Annie and Warner Hagstrom. (Dorothy lived with them in 1920). There is record of them having 3 children.

  1. Daughter born around 1904 died in 1909
  2. Son born 13 Aug 1906 died 31 Aug 1906 in Ashland, Wisconsin
  3. Daughter born 30 May 1910 died 30 May 1910 Minneapolis, Minnesota

I’ll start with the youngest daughter. I found a birth certificate for her (I’m in the process of purchasing it.)

Certificate Number: 1910-41478
Birth: May 30 1910
County of Birth: Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States
Subject: Birth records
Type: Text, Government Record, Historical Records
Details: Mother’s Maiden Name: Anna

According to the city directories and the Census Anna and Warner were living in Minnesota in 1910. It does not list how many children they have had (living or not)

Next is the son. I found a death certificate for him. Parents are listed as Warner Hagstrom and Mary Hagstrom. Although looking closer at it, it says both Warner and Mary were born in Norway. So I am actually removing him from my records. I don’t believe this is their son and until I have further proof that he is I am going to delete the link.

Oldest Daughter. Birth information is unknown. The only information I had on this daughter is a newspaper article from 22 Oct of 1909. It’s a terribly sad story. “While Warner Hagstrom was operating a steam thresher from one farm to another he told his 6-year-old daughter to get on and ride with him. She was was on the other end of the thresher from her father and slipped and fell in front of the machine. The big wheels passed over the body, killing her instantly.” Its heartbreaking to read. I can’t even imagine what that poor father went through. I couldn’t find any other information on the little girl. I didn’t even know her name or her birthdate or anything.

I posted on an ancestry group on FB hoping that someone could help me find anything on her. There were a lot of good suggestions. Some I had already explored and some that hadn’t even occurred to me. One mentioned that it could be a niece like Dorothy. I explored that for a little while and thought it definitely could be Babe Frees but then I realized that the years were off. Babe Frees was born in 1906 while this daughter was born around 1904. So I was back to square one.

Then someone posted a link to a site I hadn’t found before https://www.moodylapointe.com/ps07/ps07_228.html This is a descendant of the sister of Warner! I now know that this daughter is named Eleanor. The years he has listed are a mistake. The posting in the newspaper is from 1909 and that would put her born in 1903/1904. I also learned that Annie and Warner had 5 children who died at birth. I’m gonna have to do some more research finding the rest of the children.

From this website I also found out that Annie’s birthday is 17 Oct 1884 and she died on 5 April 1920. I still don’t know where she died or was buried but it’s still progress!

Also – from the same website i looked at Annie’s page Anna “Annie” FRIECE (moodylapointe.com) and saw this “Five children died at birth, and one son was killed at age 6. They adopted Dorothy. ®162” (technically the child who died was a daughter not a son but I’m sure that was just a typo) The source information for “They adopted Dorothy” said it was from “Diaries of Mildred Elaine Anderson LaPointe 1927-1996” DIARIES?!?!?!?!? Music to my ears. I contacted the owner of the page and asked if there was any other information he had about the adoption. I am praying he answers and maybe there is something in the diaries. Or Maybe he has some pictures of Dorothy or something. How amazing would that be?!?!
