Brick Wall Number 2 – Frees Side

I could almost build a house with all of these brick walls lol. But slowly we are getting through them to build our tree.

The Frees side. I was stuck at not having parents for Jons Anderson (sometimes August, sometimes Anders) Frees. He was even tougher than Carolina. I didn’t even have a father’s name for him. He has also been listed on his children’s birth and death certificates as:

  • Jöns Anderson Früs
  • John A Frees
  • John A Freis
  • Jøns Anderson Früs
  • John August Friis
  • J A Frees

On his death certificate his father’s name is just listed as Frees and no mother is listed. There also wasn’t a birthday listed. It just said he died at 60 years old. So we didn’t even know his actual birthday. Unfortunately death certificates are only as good as the knowledge of the informant. So if the informant didn’t know his father’s name then it won’t be listed. So I’ve been stuck and there’s been no help from Ancestry.com with hints or anything but a lot of the information would be from Sweden where Jons was born.

Jons and Carolina’s first son was named Anders and their second son was named Carl. Although Axel was their third son and according to tradition should have been Jons. I now knew Carolina’s father was Carl so I had a guess that Jons father was Anders. I knew Jons was Jons Anders which COULD be after his father but again I wasn’t sure.

We submitted DNA from Loren Jr so we could hopefully find Babe Girl Frees (That’s a whole different post. I’ll update on that soon) The results came back and in those results I found some matches who’s relative were an Emma Friis. I researched back on her and found the entire Friis/Frees line!

Jon Anderson August Frees is the son of

  • Mother: Kersti Svensdotter (b: 8 Jan 1810 Asmundtorp, Malmöhuslän, Skåne, Sverge • d: 10 Dec 1890 Ottarp, Malmöhus län,Skåne Sverge)

Anders and Kersti had 8 children:

  2. Pernilla Andersdotter (b: 13 April 1839 Ottarp, Skåne, Sweden • d: 12 Aug 1915 Fattiggården, Svalöv, Sweden)
  3. Nilla Andersdotter (b: 6 Jan 1841 Ottarp, Skåne, Sweden • d: unknown)
  4. Sven Andersson Friis (b: 22 Mar 1843 Ottarp, Malmöhus, Sweden • d: 9 Feb 1926 • Ekeby, Sweden)
  5. Botilla Andersdotter (b: 24 Jul 1845 Rönnarp, Ottarp, Sweden • d: 14 May 1849 Rönnarp, Ottarp, Sweden)
  6. Pehr “Peter” Andersson Friis (b: 13 Jan 1847 Rönnarp, Ottarp, Sweden • d: unknown)
  7. Jons Anderson August Frees (b: 2 Dec 1849 Rönnarp, Ottarp, Sweden • d: 9 Jan 1910)
  8. Eric Andersson Friis (b: 17 Apr 1852 Rönnarp, Ottarp, Sweden • d: unknown)

I have found spouses and children for most of the descendants of Anders and Kersti. They had 22 grandchildren. I’m still working on finding all of the great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

I have also now found Jons birthday. He was born on 2 Dec 1849 in Rönnarp, Ottarp, Sweden.
